Highlights

  • Prices of the Cadillac Lyriq will start at $58,795
  • Deliveries for the car are likely to start at the end of 2022
  • GM promises over 483 km of range with the rear-wheel-drive model

GM is all set to start taking reservations for the Cadillac Lyriq electric SUV on September 18 for a starting price of $58,795. Cadillac is GM's premium brand and it had earlier indicated a desire to transition it to an electric car brand. This will be a second GM EV based on its Ultium battery technology aside from the Hummer EV for which deliveries will start later in the year. Lyriq will be delivered later most probably at the fag end of 2022 but could be even further delayed considering the global semi-conductor shortage.

The Lyriq is going to start at less than $60,000 for the rear wheel drive model

"This is the spark. The dawn of a bright new era. Our electric future, rooted in more than a century of innovation, begins with an uncompromising electric SUV. Meet the Cadillac LYRIQ. An EV that inspires its driver to charge forward to a greater purpose with every sublime detail. Prepare yourself for our newest creation," GM said in a statement.

It will also debut GM's SuperCruise driver assist system

It is also worth noting that its luxury brand is launching an electric SUV which is cheaper than the Hummer EV which has a starting point of upwards of $100,000. GM promises a range of 483 kilometres with a 100 kWh battery pack. But this model isn't a dual motor all-wheel-drive system and it will be a simpler rear-wheel-drive model but more expensive all-wheel-drive models are expected.
