Andrew Cuomo Resigns as Governor of New York

Andrew Cuomo has officially resigned as the Governor of the state of New York after an investigation found he sexually harassed multiple women.

The 63-year-old politician announced he would be stepping down in 14 days, and his lieutenant governor, Kathy Hochul, will take his place at that time. She will be the state’s first female Governor. August 24 will be his final day.

“I think that given the circumstances the best way I can help now is if I step aside and let government get back to government, and therefore that is what I’ll do, because I work for you, and doing the right thing, is doing the right thing for you,” Cuomo said.

He has continued to push back against the allegations against him, calling them “false.” As for why he decided to step down despite claiming he’s innocent, he said it would lead to months of controversy and distraction and cause the taxpayers millions of dollars to fight the allegations against him.
