Woodside Inn, Mumbai

This piece could start and end here—that is how good Woodside Inn’s burgers have been for over a decade now. Even while it was doing just takeaway menus, customers lined up in cars outside the Colaba building to get a bite of these burgers. Though the Woodside Burger Shop offers classic options like a chicken burger spiced with ghost chilli sauce or a pulled lamb one, this is one place that gets vegetarian patties right too. Especially the one that comes stuffed with sautéed mushroom, Spotted Cow Fromagerie’s melted camembert, a dash of truffle oil and caramelised onions.

The newest entrant in the burger delivery business, Louis Burger stands out for its gold-leaf garnished buns. Started by Delhi-based restaurateur Zorawar Kalra, this burger kitchen has a long menu featuring basic buff, lamb and chicken burgers, but it also comes with several gourmet add-ons. Louis Burger’s standout features are its toppings that will low-key appeal to any millennial and will look good on the ’gram too: animal sauce, fermented hot sauce, Korean gochujang, truffle mayo and so on. For non-meat eating folks, there's a Vegan Gratitude burger that comes stuffed with a beetroot and sweet potato patty with vegan mayo.

Boss Burger, Mumbai

Juicy patties, soft buns, an apt quantity of butter and the crunch of the veggies that is retained even on delivery—that is Boss Burger in a nutshell. Started by restaurateur Riyaaz Amlani, this one is one of the many brands he launched during the pandemic. On the menu, you’ll find gourmet burgers like a signature tenderloin burger and a peri-peri hinted vegetarian one, but also burgers that you associate with flavours of India. Take, for instance, the OG aloo tikki stuffed burger or another one that comes stuffed with chicken tikka. It has something for every kind of eater.

One of Mumbai’s best Asian chefs, Seefah Ketchaiyo now also runs a bakery and a burger delivery kitchen. Featuring only Asian-style burgers, on her menu you’ll find patties like chicken katsu, laab gai, chicken teriyaki, mapo tofu and other Asian dishes you would have never thought of eating between breads. Even her sides have an Asian twist—think matcha-dusted or tom yam-flavoured fries and wasabi mayo salad. Pad it up with salad for the best experience.

Burgerman, Chennai

Burgers influenced by Asian, Indian and Mexican flavours find home at Burgerman, one of Chennai’s few burger-only kitchens. If you’re experimental and craving North Indian food in Chennai, go for the butter chicken or the paneer makhani versions that are heavily flavoured with desi spices. But to be honest, the barbecue chicken or bean option that comes with a smoked sauce seem like clear winners.

Cuebebar, Goa

Tacos, steaks, pizza, burgers—this spot is for those who want tons of carbs, steaks, fiery appetisers and great drinks all together. The burger menu is majorly gourmet, with options within beef, chicken, pork, fish and veggie category. The triple-fried chicken with honey butter garlic and garlic aioli sounds like what hot lunches should be made of. Same can be said about the All Mighty Burgers, which they specifically caution as “cannot be cut”. Does the sound of a double cheese-stuffed patty with crispy bacon, caramelised onion, grilled mushroom, extra cheese, cheese sauce and chilli aioli sound like things you’re going to order soon? It's a yes for us.

Chard, Delhi

If you love Plats, Delhi’s tiny and delicious contemporary comfort food restaurant, then this is for you. Opened by the same duo behind the restaurant, Jamsheed Bhote and Hanisha Singh, Chard is a burger-only kitchen. Its menu reads of classic tenderloin or lamb cheese burgers and many signatures like a panko-crusted fish fillet patty, a breakfast-style bun featuring a lamb or tenderloin patty, truffled scrambled eggs, bacon, house sauce and cheese—all served with fries. According to us, the showstopper is the double-tenderloin patty that sits under a Korean-style bulgogi glaze, kimchi, gochujang spread, a fried egg , sesame and scallions, of course, served with fries. Eat this while watching a Korean show, please?

Aku’s The Brrgrr Co, Delhi

Delhi’s food influencers have not convinced us to try a brand as much as this one. And rightly so. Aku’s is one of the earliest burger delivery kitchens in the capital. Its menu is a mix of ready-to-eat burgers but also burger DIY kits you can invest time in putting together on a weekend. These come with patty options like a root veggie patty or mushroom, and interesting add-ons like blue cheese, gluten-free buns and so on. If you want to skip the hard work, the menu offers a grilled chicken paprika burger, quinoa patty, minced lamb patty, plus more.

And Mother Clucker, which has chicken sausages with hot sauce and tomatoes on a bed of fried egg. Ahmedabad's burger spot also does loaded nachos and fries for company.
