Two brothers arrested for fatal stabbing of KwaZulu-Natal woman accused of 'witchcraft'

  • The brothers grabbed her, pulled her outside the house and stabbed her several times.

A 51-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death after two brothers accused her of practicing "witchcraft" in Umdumezulu area, KwaZulu-Natal.

The suspects approached the woman's home while she was sleeping with her children in Umdumezulu on Sunday.

According to an eyewitness, they accused the woman of practicing witchcraft. 

"They grabbed her, pulled her outside the house and stabbed her several times," police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said on Monday. 

Mbele said the victim's daughter had run to their neighbours for assistance and, when she came back, "she found the deceased lying in a the pool of blood with multiple stabbed wounds on her body". 

She was certified dead at the scene.

A case of murder has been opened at the Umbumbulu police station. 

"Two suspects aged 26 and 36, who are brothers, were immediately arrested and taken to Umbumbulu police station for further investigation," said Mbele.
