The defender's shot ricocheted off the near post, much to goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois' surprise.
While at the other end of the pitch, Mike Maignan made his debut for AC Milan. His performance was solid, however, he did struggle to play out from the back.

Bale, who is back from his loan spell at Tottenham, bizarrely wore the No 50 shirt for Real
