Hassan MLA should not be narrow-minded: JD(S)

HASSAN/ MYSURU: JD(S) state president and Sakleshpur MLA H K Kumaraswamy on Sunday said Hassan MLA Preetham J Gowda is acting silly by overreactig to chief minister Basavaraj Bommai’s recent meeting with former PM H D Deve Gowda.
He told reporters: “Meeting the former PM shows the CM’s courtesy, and we appreciate it. This should not be linked to any party. Overreacting to such a meet shows one’s narrow-mindedness and lack of experience.”
Expressing displeasure over the new cabinet, the MLA said: “It has brought dissatisfaction among many. Thirteen districts have lost their representation as their legislators have not got a berth. Only three Dalit MLAs have got it, and this shows the BJP government is anti-Dalit and anti-women.”
When asked about demand of delimiting Sakleshpur-Alur constituency to the former taluk, he said: “Constituencies should be demarcated based on population and geographical area. Elsewhere in India, there is one MLA for 30,000 population. The constituency should be confined to Sakleshpur taluk only, keeping in view overall development of the region. This is a yearslong process which the Union government should consider.”
‘Mahesh betrayed voters’
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) state president M Krishnamurthy has said that former minister and Kollegal MLA N Mahesh will not contest in assembly elections as he has already realised that people, being upset with him, will vote him out.
Speaking to reporters in Mysuru on Sunday, Krishnamurthy vent his anger against Mahesh for defecting from BSP to BJP. “He has failed to keep the promises made to people during the election,” he alleged.
“Mahesh became Kollegal MLA by riding on Dalit votes. Now, he has joined the saffron party to contest the Lok Sabha election from Chamarajanagar constituency, after incumbent MP V Srinivas Prasad announced his retirement from politics,” he said. tnn
