PRAYAGRAJ: After keeping an upward trend for the past 24 hours, both
Ganga and Yamuna rivers have crossed the danger level mark (84.73 metres) in the city on Monday morning.
With the water still rising in both the rivers and inundating fresh areas, district administration is evacuating the affected families and moving them to safer places and in flood-relief camps.
The water level in river Ganga (as recorded at 8am) at Phaphamau was 85.08 metres while at Chhatnag, it was 84.29 metres. Likewise, water level in river Yamuna at Naini was recorded at 84.90 metres.
Because of the rising water, the water level at all the three points of the rivers (as recorded at 10am) increased to 85.13 metres at Phaphamau and 84.36 metres at Chhatnag. Water level of Yamuna was recorded at 84.96 metres.
The water level is increasing with the rate of 5cm at Phaphamau, 7cm at Chhatnag and 6cm in Naini (Yamuna).
With the increase in volume of water in both the rivers, flood water has entered some localities like
Ganga Nagar, Nevada, Ashok Nagar, Beli gaon, parts of Rajapur, Salori, Bada and Chota Baghara, Badra and Sanauti, Daraganj, Nagvasuki and others.
Similarly, due to the increasing level of water in Yamuna, flood water has reached the Baradari on the banks of Yamuna at Baluaghat.
As several of the localities are marooned by floods, several flood relief camps have been setup by the administration which is providing facilities to the flood affected people. Meanwhile, the administration and NDRF (national disaster relief force) is helping the locals to shift to safer places as well as keeping a strict vigil on the flood level.
“We are keeping a close watch on the water level and we are helping the locals”, said executive engineer of irrigation department, Brijesh Kumar Verma.
