
With almost a year and a half having passed since the schools shut themselves owing to the Covid pandemic, states are finally planning of reopening schools and colleges in a phased manner. As the wave seems to be somewhat subdued than before and normal functioning are resuming in line with Covid-19 protocols across the nation, states have announced their plans to gradually reopen schools. Here's a list to refer to for the same:
Maharashtra:
Maharashtra announced the reopening of schools in not just urban but rural areas as well from August 17. “Offline classes will commence in rural areas for students from classes 5 to 8, while those in cities will be for students from classes 8 to 12 following Covid-19 protocols,” Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said.
Delhi:
In a meeting with the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia resolved to form an expert team to assess the issue of school reopening in the national capital. The schools have partially opened for classes 10-12.
Karnataka:
The state government has decided on continuing with offline classes for classes 9 and 10 as well as classes preparing for Universities (11th and 12th) from August 23. The decision arose from a high level meeting held on the watch of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Jammu & Kashmir:
Until further orders, all schools and higher educational institutions, including coaching centres, will remain closed for onsite/in-person teaching. Educational institutions, on the other hand, are allowed to request personal participation of vaccinated staff/students for administrative purposes and Independence Day festivities, subject to a maximum of 25 people and strict adherence to Covid guidelines.
Uttar Pradesh:
Intermediate to resume schooling offline from August 16 with half capacity. Guidelines have been issued for beginning higher educational institutes, as per statement from UP government.
West Bengal:
Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, said her government is considering reopening schools and institutions on alternating days after the Durga Puja holiday in November. Since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in March of last year, the state's educational institutions have been closed.
