AAP demands concession in electricity bills

Aurangabad, Aug 9 (UNI) On occasion of 'August Kranti Din', the activists of Aam Aadmi Party on Monday met the local Congress leaders from various cities in Maharashtra and wrote a letter directly to MP Rahul Gandhi asking him for concession in electricity bills as promised by his party.
In Aurangabad, an AAP delegation, led by Marathwada president Subhas Mane, handed over a memorandum of their demand to Congress city and district president Hisham Osmani.
It was stated in the memorandum that the Congress party in their manifestos during the Assam, Kerala and Delhi elections, Mr Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi had promised to provide 200 units of free electricity to the people of Assam, 100 units in Kerala and 300 units in Delhi if the party came to power.
"So why not fulfil this promise while participating in power in Maharashtra," they asked.
The Congress is a constituent of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra and Congress' Nitin Raut is the state's power minister.
Mr Raut had also announced to provide 100 units of free electricity to the people of the state before Diwali festival, but it has not been implemented to date, it was stated.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, all industries, trade and markets in the state were in complete locked down, leaving ordinary citizens in dire financial crisis.
"When many did not pay their electricity bills during the second wave of pandemic, our power minister has ordered to cut off their electricity connections," it said and called the action unjust.
"If the Congress could promise to give free electricity in other states, then why it is not doing the same here in Maharashtra where it is sharing power," the memorandum added.
