Virginia Union DE Quandarius Wilburn Dies After Collapsing During Practice
A football player from Virginia Union University died Sunday after collapsing during conditioning drills as fall camp got underway. The school announced Monday afternoon that defensive end Quandarius Wilburn had died the previous day.
Wilburn, 19, was a 6-foot-2, 230-pound player from Georgia. He was participating in drills with his Panther teammates Sunday at Hovey Stadium, which is located on the campus in Richmond.
VUU is a private school that is among the nation's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) in the country. According to a letter sent to the community by VUU officials, the team gathered Sunday morning for breakfast, and then attended a church service together before having lunch. The conditioning drills began after that.

Once Wilburn collapsed, he was immediately taken to VCU Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Officials from VUU have not commented on the death.
Wilburn is from Wadley, Georgia, and he played his prep ball at Jefferson County High School in Louisville, Georgia.
VUU, a Division II school, did not play last fall, nor did the Panthers play this spring—both because of the COVID-19 global pandemic.
This is a developing story.
