Scott Morrison is called out for following a racy Instagram page filled with Turkish models in lingerie – but there’s an innocent explanation

  • A Turkish-based account featuring busty models included the PM as a follower
  • It appears the account was a former Queensland tourism one since hacked
  • A number of Queensland-related tourism organisations also followed the page
  • The Prime Minister's account had since stopped following the account

A Turkish Instagram account featuring scantily-clad models was followed by Prime Minister Scott Morrison, but there appears to be an innocent explanation.

Journalist Cameron Wilson discovered the Prime Minister's official Instagram account was following the @baddiesstartr account, which features busty models in swimsuits and lingerie.

He posted his discovery to his TikTok account and ended by saying, 'Sorry, Jenny', a reference to the Prime Minister's wife.

Eagle-eyed social media users quickly responded that it appeared the Turkish account had hacked a former Queensland tourism site.

Other followers of the account include Queensland Cricket, Queensland Ambulance Service, Gold Coast Airport and other tourism-related businesses in the state.

'I think it's a Queensland tourism account but it's been hacked,' one person pointed out in the comments.

'Yeah, if you looked in the tagged photos you can see it used to be a travel account,' responded another.

'I'm a Queenslander and a bunch of friends follow too. Mystery solved.'

The Prime Minister's Instagram 'follows' were quickly amended to delete the suspicious account.

His blue tick account follows 500 other accounts, largely a mix of politicians, tourism, media outlets and Australian sports stars.

The seemingly innocent mistake would not be the first time a prominent politician was embarrassed by their social media account.

In 2017, former government frontbencher Christopher Pyne said he was 'hacked' after a bot built by an Australian web developer noted he'd like a pornographic tweet.

Not long after, the Twitter account of Health Minister Greg Hunt also liked an explicit tweet.

Mr Hunt also said his account was hacked and referred the matter to the Australian Federal Police.

'The account was not hacked in a criminal sense,' then AFP commissioner Andrew Colvin later told a Senate estimates hearing after an investigation into the incident.

Queensland Tourism and Events said the account had never been associated with its organisation.

'TEQ only has only ever had one Instagram account, which is @queensland,' it said. 'It remains active and under our control.'

Daily Mail Australia had approached the Prime Minister's office for comment.
