MYSURU: The
Mysuru City Corporation (
MCC) will slap notice, collect penalty and seize the security deposit of agencies damaging city roads.
This action comes as several roads and major road junctions were damaged while laying
UGD cables and laying pipes for water supply. The survey conducted by the city civic body has indicated that both government agencies and private firms are damaging the roads.
MCC has been facing wrath from motorists and other road users for the ordeal they face while moving on damaged stretches. Tripping/ skidding while negotiating potholes and craters is their common grouse. MCC has received complaints of potholes at all major roads, including 5-6km stretch connecting the City Railway Station and Nanjangud Road, incomplete Silk Factory Road stretch on H D Kote-Manandavadi Road, Akkamahadevi Road in Vidyaranayapuran, JP Nagar, Siddarthanagar, various roads of Krishnaraja, Narasimharaja, and a few pockets in
Chamaraja and
Chamundeshwari assembly segments.
As most of the roads are riddled with potholes, motorists dread riding/ driving on these streches during the rainy season. “Damaged roads pose a threat to the safety of motorists, particularly during night. They have also resulted in accidents involving two- and four-wheelers,” said Umesh, resident of JP Nagar.
When contacted, MCC commissioner Laxmikanth Reddy told TOI the civic body has initiated measures to repair damaged roads utilizing grants sanctioned under 14th and 15th finance commission. It will collect penalties and seize the security deposit of agencies if they keep open pits and craters on roads after completing their work, he said.
