New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking action against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over a social media post that allegedly disclosed the identity of a minor rape victim and her family.
The petition was filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Dapoli tehsil president Mankarand Mhadlekar through lawyers Pankaj Singh and advocate Gautam contended that Rahul Gandhi disclosed sensitive details and published photographs of the family of the 9-year-old victim allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Delhi Cantt area on social media platform Twitter.
Demanding directions for Twitter to remove the post, the plea also sought legal action against Rahul Gandhi by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
On Thursday, the NCPCR had issued a notice to Twitter India asking it to take action against the Twitter handle of Rahul Gandhi for violating the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act by sharing sensitive information about the rape victim's family in a tweet.
On Saturday, the Congress had said that the Twitter account of Rahul Gandhi was "temporarily locked" after the micro-blogging platform denied the party's earlier claim that the leader’s account was “temporarily suspended”.
