There seemed to be no relief for businessman Raj Kundra any time soon, who was arrested on July 19 for allegedly producing porn films and distributing them online through an app. On Aug 7, taking note of the prosecutions allegation that Raj and his associate Ryan Thorpe tried to destroy evidence, the Bombay High Court dismissed the duo's petitions challenging their arrest and police custody. Justice AS Gadkari in the ruling said, 'The petitioners, who are now in judicial custody, did not deserve any relief at this point'. The court also took note of the investigating officer's statement that Raj and Ryan started to delete messages and other evidence from their mobile phones when a police team went to their office. Raj Kundra and Ryan Thorpe were arrested to ensure there was no further destruction of evidence. Meanwhile, the court also backed chief public prosecutor Aruna Pai's submission that the police could not be expected to be "mute spectators" while the accused destroyed evidence.
