Water supply disruption in govt hosp triggers panic

MANGALURU: Disruption in water supply at Government Lady Goschen Hospital here triggered panic on Sunday.
Patients and their attendants were seen roaming with buckets to get water from outside, after the water supply to the hospital building stopped.
Mangaluru City Corporation council opposition leader A C Vinayaraj said the water supply was disrupted in the building due to the lack of maintenance.

“As the pumpset was defunct, water could not be pumped from the sump to the overhead tank. The district administration should ensure that water supply in hospitals is not disrupted at any cost,” Vinayaraj said.


Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath and mayor Premanand Shetty rushed to the hospital soon after receiving the information. Kamath said there were two pumpsets in the hospital.

“Since one of them was defunct, water was being pumped through the spare one. But that also went off, leading to water supply disruption. The repair work was taken up on a war-footing, and the water supply has been restored,” the MLA said.
