Itanagar, Aug 9 (UNI) Continuing its war against drug menace in the state, Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) has launched a helpline number, where people can share any information related to drugs.
Narcotics helpline cell has been set up at Crime Branch police station (SIT) at the police
headquarters here to receive information regarding transportation, consumption and peddling of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances through WhatsApp message mobile number 9362812717, a police spokesman said here on Monday.
The helpline number will operate 24x7 for information sharing, he informed.
"A team of officers will be monitoring it. Information once sent, shall be sent to concerned SsP for verification and necessary action. Text message, images and videos via WhatsApp may be sent,"
APP PRO Rohit Rajbir Singh said.
Meanwhile, the APP appealed to the people of the state to share any information related to drugs
to this helpline number and also assured that informant's identity shall be kept confidential.
It may be mentioned here that the state Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Pema Khandu had approved the 'Arunachal Pradesh Policy on Psychoactive Substances 2021-26' to fight the drug menace in the state, last month.
Based on three pillars of supply, demand and harm reduction, the policy aims for a systematic approach to deal with the menace comprehensively and not in piecemeal.
Khandu in his address at the annual conference of SPs and Commandants of AAPBn/IRBn
in Tawang (on April 19), had given a clarion call to make Arunachal a drug-free state by 2022.
