Hamilton County's COVID cases up 76.6%; Ohio cases surge 51.9%
New coronavirus cases continued to leap in Greater Cincinnati and in Ohio in the week ending Sunday.
Cases in Ohio rose 51.9% last week with 12,196 new cases reported. The previous week had 8,030 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

Ohio ranked 39th among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the latest week coronavirus cases in the United States increased 35.9% from the week before, with 760,368 cases reported. With 3.51% of the country's population, Ohio had 1.6% of the country's cases in the last week. Across the country, 48 states had more cases in the latest week than they did in the week before.
Hamilton County reported 1,003 cases and five deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 568 cases and five deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 83,873 cases and 1,266 deaths.

Butler County reported 380 cases and two deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 319 cases and two deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 40,624 cases and 616 deaths.
Clermont County reported 336 cases and one death in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 169 cases and one death. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 20,865 cases and 262 deaths.
Warren County reported 278 cases and one death in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 188 cases and one death. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 25,353 cases and 313 deaths.
In northern Kentucky, Boone County reported 251 cases and two deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 170 cases and two deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 15,085 cases and 151 deaths.
Kenton County reported 229 cases and one death in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 130 cases and one death. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 17,432 cases and 210 deaths.
Within Ohio, the worst weekly outbreaks on a per-person basis were in Scioto, Lawrence and Gallia counties. Adding the most new cases overall were Franklin County, with 1,319 cases; Cuyahoga County, with 1,024 cases; and Hamilton County, with 1,003. Weekly case counts rose in 85 counties from the previous week. The worst increases from the prior week's pace were in Franklin, Hamilton and Cuyahoga counties.

Ohio ranked 35th among states in share of people receiving at least one shot, with 50.6% of its residents at least partially vaccinated. The national rate is 58.7%, a USA TODAY analysis of CDC data shows. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, which are the most used in the United States, require two doses administered a few weeks apart.
In the week ending Sunday, Ohio reported administering another 109,892 vaccine doses, including 73,117 first doses. In the previous week, the state administered 106,613 vaccine doses, including 59,298 first doses. In all, Ohio reported it has administered 11,214,315 total doses.
In Ohio, 64 people were reported dead of COVID-19 in the week ending Sunday. In the week before that, zero people were were reported dead.
A total of 1,142,330 people in Ohio have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, and 20,556 people have died from the disease, Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the United States 35,763,785 people have tested positive and 616,829 people have died.
