There is a renewed shift of focus towards family and personal relationships. From the time you are born, your family has an impact on your beliefs and overall character development. How you will behave or react to situations later in life somehow will be reflected by your early family years. Family is important, but then why are family relationships so difficult to manage and understand?

There is always some relative who succeeds in rubbing you up the wrong way but understanding what drives them, from an astrological level, will breed the tolerance needed to navigate problems. There are four elements in astrology, namely—fire, earth, air and water. The zodiac signs belonging to these groups tend to take on the characteristics of the element (fire, earth, air and water) which are largely responsible for an individual’s temperament and its relationship within the family. Let’s understand the different elements and zodiac signs associated with these elements. Once you understand each of these elements, you can forge better relations and bond beautifully with your family. Fire: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius

The fire element, as the name suggests, is a great source of warmth and light, but it can also be extremely impulsive and volatile. From an assertive Aries to a charismatic Leo or exuberant Sagittarius, these three are the ones who will always make an effort to keep bonding with their family and relations. They will be the ones to regularly call to check how they are doing in life and probably arrange family reunions. While their enthusiasm is infectious, their zealous behaviour can make them bossy in the eyes of some. Fire signs also enjoy a bit of drama and excitement, which compels them to speak without thinking. And while they always present honest opinions, sometimes the impact is brutal. However, amid the tactlessness and at times impetuous behaviour, there is an admirable, generosity of spirit and fierce loyalty.

Earth: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn

An Earth sign, as the name suggests, are down to earth, grounded, pragmatic and somewhat conservative in order to feel safe. From a practical Taurus, analytical Virgo or determined Capricorn, these three approach life with caution, careful planning and support from family. Earth signs dislike surprises. Instead, they like to organize and plan. In a family relationship, they are the ones whom you can call in time of need or crisis. You can always rely on them to give you very practical advice. However, it is very difficult for them to change their thoughts, views or ideas, once they have decided. So, if you have any disagreement in the family, better sleep over it for you will never make them change their stand. Earth signs are tactile and affectionate in their own genuine way but may not express their feelings.

Air: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius

Air signs are always changing and evolving. If you have some Air signs in your family, it may unnerve you, for they are independent, spontaneous and open-minded. Air signs have a strong dislike for restrictions within the family for free flow of ideas and also to explore life. All Air signs, from vivacious Gemini, charming Librans to adventurous Aquarius, dislike restrictions and love the chance to broaden their horizons, meeting new people and places. Air signs need mental stimulation and excitement and are all blessed with outgoing and naturally expressive personalities. In family relations, this quality at times can be projected negatively. You can count on Air sign to sign up for family reunions but never expect them to be leaders in Whatsapp groups or family zoom meetings but they are highly sociable as well as good communicators. You can often see them in the role of family mediator and are also great at diffusing tense family situations.

Water: Scorpio, Cancer and Pisces

The deep and turbulent water holds the many states of emotions of the Water signs belonging to this element. Water signs rely on instinct, feelings, thoughts and pain of others rather than logic and reasoning. They are extremely sympathetic and will often put the needs of the family first rather than their own which can manifest as victims or martyrdom, particularly among parents. Water signs have immense insight and hold great emotions within their hearts. Whether it’s a nurturing Cancer, intense Scorpio or a perceptive Pisces, they are all extremely intuitive, you cannot possibly hide anything from them, even the youngest water sign child will pick up on the slightest bit of tension within the family, be it a parent or an upset sibling. You can always count on them for emotional support and a sympathetic ear. However, they can become quite obsessed, irritated when others are not sensitive to their own needs. Water signs can hold on to a grudge for a long period of time. In the realms of nature, water and earth mutually benefit each other and so you may notice that the relationship between the members is usually effortless, within the family.
