Agartala, Aug 9 (UNI) The opposition CPI-M sought the removal of Sports, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Manoj Kanti Deb from the cabinet accusing him of perpetrating continuous attacks on oppositions in Kamalpur since the formation of the BJP-IPFT government in Tripura in March 2018.
The CPI-M state secretary Gautam Das alleged that over 10 incidents of violence and attacks on opposition supporters were reported in Kamalpur of Dhalai district in the last three and half years and minister Manoj Deb was found involved in every incident. As a result, police have not been able to arrest the criminals.
Das alleged that CPI-M veteran leader Ranjit Ghosh (75) and 12 other party workers were assaulted in Kamalpur on Aug 6 last and setting a party office on fire under the direct instruction and indulgence of Manoj Kanti Deb. Ghosh has been undergoing treatment at Tripura Medical College, as he received serious head injuries and suffering from age-related ailments.
According to the report, the youth front of CPI-M had launched a campaign under the banner of ‘Where is my job?’ Ranjit Ghosh along with others was proceeding to the programme and on the way, they were attacked allegedly by BJP goons on their way. A day after the incident, the CPI-M party office at Manikbhander was set on fire allegedly by BJP cadres at night amid curfew restrictions, but police didn’t take any action against anybody despite lodging specific complaints, Das said.
Another attack was carried out in Ranirbazar under Jirania sub-division of West Tripura on Aug 7 and the CPI-M party office was vandalized and attacked five houses of the party workers, he alleged adding, “A jungle raaj is prevailing under the regime of Biplab Kumar Deb in Tripura. People are fed up with the misrule of the BJP.
More than a thousand attacks on CPI-M workers and leaders have happened since March 2018 after the BJP led government came to power but no action was taken by the administration.”
