“Under the influence of likely prevailing of stronger southwesterly/southerly winds from Bay of Bengal in the lower levels over these areas, from 11 August, rainfall intensity is very likely to increase over these areas, resulting in isolated extremely heavy falls over Assam and Meghalaya during 11 to 13 August,” IMD said in a statement. It also forecast widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls over Uttarakhand in next 5 days and over Himachal Pradesh on August 12 and 13. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand are also likely to receive heavy falls during next 4-5 days.
“Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls very likely over Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan during next 24 hours with significant reduction in intensity and distribution thereafter. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall very likely over Tamil Nadu and Kerala during next 5 days with isolated heavy falls over Tamil Nadu during next 5 days and over Kerala during next 3 days,” IMD added.
Northwest India including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and most parts of Peninsular India, including Maharashtra and Gujarat are also likely to experience subdued rainfall in coming days, IMD said.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday conducted an aerial survey of flood-hit areas of Udaynarayanpur in Howrah district on her way to Jhargram, an official said at the state secretariat, PTI reported. Banerjee, the official said, is “very much unhappy” over Damodar Valley Corporation releasing “excessive water” leading to the flood situation. At least 23 persons have lost their lives and several lakh people have been displaced in seven districts of Bengal in the flood which Banerjee has described as “man-made”.
The Badrinath and Yamunotri highways in Dehradun were blocked after heavy rainfall today. In Uttar Pradesh, Heavy rainfall has caused rivers to overflow and caused floods in residential areas near river banks, according to ANI.

BJP national vice president Vasundhara Raje on Monday expressed concern over the flood situation arising out of incessant rains in Jhalawar, Baran and other districts in Kota division, and asked Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to visit the affected areas.
Raje, who conducted an aerial survey of Baran, said people are suffering due to floods and excessive rainfall but Gehlot and his ministers only did "formalities" by holding video conferences.
She said 100 per cent of crops in the Hadoti region were damaged but the divisional commissioner gave a report of 30 per cent damage. (PTI)

Delhi on Monday recorded a maximum temperature of 33.4 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 25.1 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal, it added.
The national capital received a total of 15.4 mm rainfall in a 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am, according to the IMD's Safdarjung station.
The Ayanagar and Ridge stations recorded heavier rainfall of about 27 mm and 30 mm respectively. Relative humidity was 73 per cent at 5.30 pm. The city is expected to witness strong surface winds on Tuesday with the maximum and minimum temperatures reaching up to 35 and 27 degrees Celsius respectively. (PTI)

With around 500 houses submerged in water, heavy rainfall has caused floods in residential areas near rivers. Residents say that many people have moved out, the water level has been continuously rising; and shelter and aid are not available for many, ANI reported.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, earlier today, said he would conduct an aerial survey of flood-affected areas of Auraiya and Etawah.
In Uttrakhand, due to heavy rainfall, Badrinath and Yamunotri highways were blocked. Heavy rainfall took place in Dehradun and other parts of the state, ANI reported.

While Laharpur (Sitapur) received 15 cm rainfall; Kunda (Pratapgarh) 13 cm; Bareilly, Karchhana (Prayagraj) 9 cm each; Tanda (Ambedkar Nagar) and Baberu (Banda) 8 cm each; Deoband (Saharanpur); Churk (Sonbhadra); Patti (Pratapgarh) and Ghazipur 6 cm each; and Robertsganj (Sonbhadra) 5 cm, it said.
The highest maximum temperature in the state was 35.6 degrees Celsius recorded at the Lakhimpur Kheri observatory while the lowest minimum temperature over the state was 23 degrees Celsius recorded at Ghazipur observatory, it said.

The Public Works Department (PWD) will restore roads, with a width of 60 feet and above, dug up by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), officials said on Monday.
For roads with a width less than 60 feet, the restoration work of the portion cut, will be taken up by the DJB to the specification of the existing road.
These instructions were issued by PWD Minister Satyender Jain in a review meeting conducted in the wake of road cutting and repair of roads during the rainy season. (PTI)
In the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall is very likely over Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan, said Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur over West Bengal, Uttrakhand and Sikkim in the next five days. Widespread rainfall is also likely to occur over Himachal Pradesh on 12th and 13th August. Rainfall is likely to occur over East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand in the next five days, IMD added.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), areas of the National Capital Region (NCR) including Ghaziabad, Dadri and parts of Uttar Pradesh will see light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms today.
The relative humidity recorded on Monday over various parts of Pune ranged between 77 and 80 per cent. Despite this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light intensity rainfall on the day.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a slew of measures to help the people in areas affected by floods following heavy rains and formed a task force, comprising 12 cabinet ministers, to look after the relief work.
In a statement issued late Sunday evening, Chouhan also said the families of those who died in the floods will be given a financial assistance of Rs four lakh each.
At least 24 people died and thousands were evacuated to safety as rains lashed the Chambal-Gwalior region of north Madhya Pradesh last week, officials earlier said.
Chouhan said 8,900 people trapped at various locations in flood-hit districts were rescued by the Air Force, the Army, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), while 32,900 people were shifted to safer places. (PTI)

Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Sunday conducted an aerial survey of flood-hit areas of the Gwalior-Chambal region and directed officials to restore public services on priority.
Taking a jibe at Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath, who conducted aerial surveys of the flood-affected region on Saturday, Scindia said the former should have got down to see the "ground reality".
"One should not confine himself just to conducting aerial surveys. Whenever such visits are made..those conducting such visits should also get down on the ground to see the actual situation," Scindia told reporters when asked about Nath's aerial survey. (PTI)
The intensity of rainfall over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim is likely to increase from August 11-12 as the monsoon trough has shifted close to the foothills, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
IMD Director General Mrutunjay Mohapatra said the monsoon trough is moving towards the western foothills of the Himalayas. He said rainfall is likely to decrease over north Indian plains and increase over the hills.
The entire monsoon trough is likely to shift close to the foothills of the Himalayas during the next 24 to 48-hours, the IMD said. A cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Madhya Pradesh, it added. (PTI)
Heavy rainfall between June 21 and 23 damaged crops on an area of 20,274 hectares in Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts in Maharashtra, with cotton, tur, soybean, maize and vegetables being the worst hit, agriculture officials said on Sunday. As per initial estimates by the agriculture department, 1,964 hectares of land in 96 villages were washed away in flooding caused by the rains, they added.
In Nagpur, rains damaged crops on 9,176.55 hectares spread over 126 villages in Kamptee, Saoner, Kalmeshwar, Ramtek and Hingna tehsils, while the destruction of produce was spread over 10,579.65 hectares in 155 villages in Warora, Chimur, Rajura, Jivati and Gondpipari tehsils in Chandrapur, an official said.
"Cotton, tur and soybean planted on 418.70 hectares in Seloo and Samudrapur in Wardha were destroyed. Over 100 hectares of cotton cultivation were damaged in Sironcha tehsil in Gadchiroli. Of the agricultural land washed away, 248.3 hectares were located in 20 villages in Saner in Nagpur, and 1,716 hectares in 76 villages in Rajura, Jivati, Ballarpur and Korpana tehsils of Chandrapur," he added. Light to moderate rain along with thundershower occurred at few places over eastern Uttar Pradesh, the meteorological department said on Sunday.
Lalitpur, Firozabad, Maharajganj, Kheri, Mathura, Meerut, Basti, Ballia, Ambedkar Nagar, Kasganj and Sambhal received rainfall, it said. Lakhimpur Kheri was the hottest city in the state where mercury touched 35.6 degrees Celsius. Heavy rain is very likely at isolated places in the state on August 9. Rain/thundershowers are very likely at many places in the northern state on August 10 and 11. (PTI)
