An unidentified man on a dirt bike punched an NYPD traffic agent during the evening rush hour on Canal Street on Friday, cops said.
The 40-year-old cop was directing traffic at Canal Street and Lafayette Street in Manhattan at around 7 p.m. when his alleged assailant approached, began yelling at him then proceeded to toss water at him, the NYPD said.
At that point, the suspect socked the agent with a closed fist — then fled westbound down Canal Street on his red and white bike.
Cops said the suspected assailant was six-foot-tall, in his early 20s, and last seen in a white tank top, blue jean shorts, white sneakers, black belt and red ski mask over his face.
The suspect had a black and purple bookbag, NYPD said. The traffic agent was treated at a nearby hospital and released.
