BENGALURU: A few cabinet colleagues of
chief minister Basavaraj Bommai are upset over the ministries allocated to them on Saturday.
Anand Singh, who has been given the charge of ecology, environment, and tourism, was the first to express his disappointment. “It is painful. I had expected a better portfolio. I will meet
CM Bommai and express my concerns,” said Singh, who had set his eyes on plum portfolios.
In Yediyurappa’s cabinet too, Singh was sulking after he was allocated infrastructure development, Haj and Wakf. “It is better to work as a legislator than a minister with a low-profile portfolio. My portfolio was changed thrice when Yediyurappa was CM, but I didn’t express discontent. I was among those responsible for formation of BJP government in 2019 since I was the first of the 17 legislators to resign when the Congress-JD(S) combine was in power. Yet I have got a raw deal,” he added.
Bommai, however, said some displeasure was normal whenever portfolios were changed, adding he would talk to the ministers.
“He (Anand Singh) is my good friend. The cabinet is being expanded to ensure changes in the administration. All have been allocated good portfolios,” he added.
B Sreeramulu, a backward class leader, is also believed to be unhappy with his portfolio since he held health and family welfare followed by social welfare in Yediyurappa’s cabinet. He has been given transport and ST welfare.
Some ministers not complaining
RDPR minister
KS Eshwarappa said, “Portfolios are given as per the strengths and wishes of the candidates. The team is ready to perform.”
Govind Karjol, minister for water resources, said his portfolio was earlier held by Bommai and he would take guidance from him. PWD minister CC Patil said he did not expect to get a plum portfolio.
Home minister Araga Jnanendra, a debutant said: “I never expected a portfolio. I had already said I would accept any, but it was indeed a pleasant surprise. It’s a big responsibility for me...’’
