Lucknow, Aug 8 (UNI) Samajwadi Party on Sunday joined hands with the Mahan Dal--a former Congress ally-- for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Mahan Dal, founded by Keshav Dev Maurya in 2008, has an influence in Rohilkhand and Western UP regions.
"We will form a majority government. Earlier, I used to talk about forming a government of 350 seats, but after getting support from Mahan dal, now we are confident of winning about 400 seats," claimed SP president Akhilesh Yadav here at the party headquarters during a joint meeting.
Slamming BJP, Akhilesh alleged that the saffron party is standing as a wall obstructing the path shown by Babasaheb and Gautam Buddha.
Mr Yadav said that when elections come in UP, Dalit and backward communities are being given lollipops by making few ministers from these communities.
"There is a fake Maurya in BJP, the real Maurya is Keshavdev Maurya of the Mahan Dal," he quipped.
He also promised that If the SP government regains power in UP, Keshavdev Maurya will get a big post in the government.
The SP president announced that if the Samajwadi Party government is formed in UP, a probe would be ordered on the deaths due to Corona.
"The state government is hiding the deaths from Corona. If the government is formed, we will also help the families and families of those who died due to corona," he added.
He also questioned that why is the government not conducting a caste census?
"Earlier Congress did not do it. Now BJP is not doing it. We declare that if the government is formed, we will conduct caste census in UP," he said.
Apart from the 2012 UP Assembly polls, Mahan Dal had allied with the Congress party for the 2014 General Election in which it unsuccessfully contested on Etah, Nagina and Badaun- considered strongholds of the Akhilesh Yadav-led party.
