The Arizona Diamondbacks have not had a lot of bright spots this season, but they have gotten solid starts lately from Madison Bumgarner, and he will look to keep his strong summer going at San Diego on Sunday.

Bumgarner has allowed five earned runs in four starts since coming off the injured list, surrendering three walks and two home runs in 25 innings.

Padres starter Blake Snell has some of the biggest home/road splits of any pitcher this season. He has a 2.81 ERA with four home runs allowed in 41 ²/₃ innings across eight starts with opponents hitting a .195 off of him in San Diego, but has registered a 7.36 ERA on the road with nine home runs allowed in 47 ²/₃ innings with opponents hitting .302 and drawing 7.2 walks per nine innings.

The Diamondbacks entered the series having scored four runs or fewer in eight of their past 10 games. Josh Rojas is currently on the injured list, so Arizona entered the weekend without a single player on the active roster with at least 10 home runs this season.

Fernando Tatis Jr., the NL leader in home runs with 31, currently is out for the Padres, whose bullpen is the only one in the MLB with a collective ERA under 3.00, so runs won’t come easily in San Diego on Sunday.

The play: Diamondbacks-Padres total, Under 8.5 runs.
