Trent Bridge, Aug 7 (UNI) England were 235/5 at Tea on day four against India in the first Test of the five-match series here on Saturday.
England lead by 140 runs with Root (96) four runs short of his century.
Earlier, in session one England, were 119/2, but after Lunch the hosts lost another three wickets in form of Sibley (28) bowled by Bumrah in 45.5 over then Bairstow (30) picked by Siraj in 57.3 over and Lawrence (25) lbw by Shardul Thakur in 64.5 over.
Root and Sibley's 89 runs for the third wicket took England to a dominating position as Indian pacers failed to keep Root on backfoot with his strokes towards boundaries.
After Sibley's departure Bairstow and Root added 42 runs on board for 4th wicket stand.
After Bairstow's exit Root and Lawrence further put on 34 runs for fifth wicket. But Lawrence was the next to go at 25.
Jos Buttler (15) and Root (96) not out were at the crease when Tea was declared.
