SHIVAMOGGA: Newly appointed ministers from
Shivamogga KS Eshwarappa and Araga Jnanendra on Friday inspected flood affected areas in Thirthahalli taluk of Shivamogga district.
The ministers started the tour from Mandagadde hobli where agriculture fields got washed away due to a downpour last month. Later they visited landslide-hit places in the taluk. Heggaru Betta at Kudige village,
Huli Betta at Yogi Narasipura village and Yedehallikere. They have also visited Bharatipura and
Geruvalli and inspected mudslides on the highways.
Speaking to media, Jnanendra said, “Landslides were reported at least 10 places in Thirthahalli taluk within 24 hours of a cloudburst last month. We are preparing the list of damages.”
Eshwarappa said the district administration has estimated a loss of Rs 480 crore in the recent flood. Rain devastated nearly 4,609 hectares of agriculture crops and 1,132 hectares of horticulture crops in the district. While 126 houses were fully damaged and 478 houses partially, 56-km of state and national highways were damaged. Four people died and their family members will get compensation,
Eshwarappa said.
Eshwarappa will continue his tour in the rest of the district on Saturday and Jnanendra will inspect flood affected areas in Chikkamagaluru during the weekend.
