DIPHU, Aug 6: Karbi Students Association (KSA) on Friday said Karbi Anglong should not be included in the “give and take policy” of resolving the border row with Meghalaya.
KSA adviser Laichan Engleng said, “With regard to the border row of Assam and Meghalaya, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma and decided to adopt ‘give and take policy’. The Meghalaya government tried to encroach on the land under Chinthong constituency of West Karbi Anglong on August 4. Meghalaya government agencies entered West Karbi Anglong district; however, due to protest by the locals and student organisations, the Meghalaya officials and police turned back.”
He further said, “The BJP led government should know that there are inter-state and inter-district border issues but at present it is all about the inter-state border, so in the name of give and take policy the land of Karbi Anglong district should not be included. Till now we didn’t demand Meghalaya’s land to be included in West Karbi Anglong and we didn’t step into even an inch of land inside Meghalaya.”
Engleng said Meghalaya has continued to encroach on West Karbi Anglong in Assam. KSA has urged Meghalaya government to stop the encroachment.
Engleng also hinted at a secret agenda of the government of Assam on Block-1 & 2 to be given away to Meghalaya.
KSA general secretary Thomson Rongpi was also present at the press conference.
