CHENNAI:
Congress leader
Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said former
Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK patriarch M
Karunanidhi was one of the key architects of social revolution.
In a letter to chief minister M K Stalin on the occasion of Karunanidhi’s third death anniversary, the Congress leader said he would like to honour the late DMK leader’s monumental contribution towards shaping modern Tamil Nadu.
“Thalaivar Kalaignar M Karunanidhi was not only one of the key architects of the social revolution that transformed the lives of millions but fought to ensure that our federal polity recognised diverse regional aspirations,” Rahul said.
The Congress leader went on to say that the foundation laid by the former chief minister continued to inspire people to embrace and preserve their sub-cultures and identities and strive for a truly inclusive nation.
“Today as we fight against the attempt to impose regressive values, we draw strength from the valiant struggle of your father and the people’s movement he built around a progressive agenda,” Rahul said, adding that Karunanidhi’s legacy would continue to guide ‘us’ in this journey.
The five-time chief minister died at the age 94 of years after a prolonged illness.
