The union territory of Puducherry logged 79fresh coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours pushing the overall tally to 1,21,602, a senior official of the Department of Health said on Sunday. The new cases were identified at the end of the examination of 5,490 samples, Director of Health Department G Sriramulu said. The Puducherry region reported 47 cases while Mahe, an enclave of Puducherry in Kerala registered 20, followed by Karaikal (10) and Yanam (2).

Tamil Nadu: Special vaccination session for people above 60
TN has planned exclusive session for second vaccine dose for people above 60 years every Sunday from August 8 at 50 centres. So far, 33% of the 86 lakh elderly in TN have got their first shot; 13% have got both jabs. But vaccination coverage is not uniform. While 68% seniors in the Nilgiris, 60% in Chennai and 53% in Coimbatore have got their first dose, it is 19% in Ranipet, Tirunelveli (19%), Cheyyar (18%), Ariyalur (17%), Villupuram (16%) and 14% in Karur. At least 35% and 30% seniors have got both the shots in Chennai and the Nilgiris. It is less than 4% in Ariyalur, Villupuram and Karur.
1500 BC relics on display at Madurai museum for 1st time
