Karan Johar-hosted Bigg Boss OTT is set to premiere on Voot on August 8. A prelude to Bigg Boss 15, the digital version will stream for six weeks, and the top performers will get a chance to be on Salman Khan’s reality show.
Apart from an hour-long episode, for the first time, the audience will have 24×7 live access to the housemates. With the theme – Stay Connected, the makers will also give viewers the power to decide tasks, punishments and even eliminations.
The makers have roped in 12 housemates who will flaunt their ‘bolder and crazier’ avatar to win the trophy and secure a spot on Bigg Boss 15. The confirmed contestants of the show are Neha Bhasin, Raqesh Bapat, Zeeshan Khan, Ridhima Pandit, Karan Nath, Urfi Javed, Divya Agarwal, Akshara Singh, Pratik Sehejpal, Nishant Bhatt, Muskaan Jattana and Milind Gaba.
Talking about associating with Bigg Boss OTT, Karan Johar shared that he has always been a fan of the show. However, the filmmaker is clear he will never be able to survive the game, as he cannot live without his phone. In case he gets a chance to be joined by friends in the house, Karan picked Kareena Kapoor and Malaika Arora to be his partners in crime.
“I don’t mind entering the show with Bebo and Mala. OMG! It would be so much fun with both inside the house, trapped without phones,” the host shared.
Bigg Boss OTT is a precursor to Bigg Boss 15, which will be hosted by Salman Khan.
In the teaser, Karan Johar revealed that the digital version of television’s most popular reality show will be bolder and crazier than all the previous seasons.
It's not only been Karan Johar's but also his mother Hiroo Johar's wish to see him host Bigg Boss OTT, which premieres on August 8. “My mom and I are huge Bigg Boss fans and wouldn’t miss it for a day. As a viewer, it keeps me hugely entertained with dollops of drama. For decades now, I have always enjoyed hosting shows and now with Bigg Boss OTT… it will surely be Over the Top. It’s my mother’s dream come true," Karan Johar said in a statement.

Neha Bhasin became an overnight sensation when she won the reality show Channel V Popstars and formed the pop band Viva, along with four other singers. Her breakthrough in Bollywood came with Fashion’s song “Kuch khaas hai”. Post Fashion, she has crooned several Hindi and Tamil songs. The singer has earlier participated in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, and has also judged Love Me India on &TV.
Director Omung Kumar, who has yet again designed Bigg Boss set, said the attempt was to create a bohemian look for the OTT house. “This season, the core proposition was to keep over-the-top element alive. We have opted for the bohemian, gypsy, carnival look for the Bigg Boss OTT House. Moreover, we also had to make it like a vacay home away from home, in a sense that when the contestants reach here, they should feel like wanting to stay here for long. Even though they may miss their home, they should still feel this is good, or better," Omung Kumar said in a statement.
One interesting aspect is that for the first time they have used sliding doors between the living room and the garden thus making the house seem grand and extraordinary when the doors are opened. The contestants can lounge in the open garden area, without worrying about getting drenched in case it rains.
The novelty factor of the bedroom are the bunk beds. Talking about it, Omung said, “The bunk beds make it very cozy and comfortable. It’s like when you’re out camping, you share beds in a tent. Also, I don’t think most of us have used bunk beds even during our childhood or school years. The carnival look is extended in the bedroom as well. Keeping in mind the tarot card tents, we have given the bedroom that look.”
