AMRITSAR: After much outrage by Hindu and Sikh community of Afghanistan, Taliban on Saturday allowed the local caretaker of Gurdwara Thala Sahib to reinstall the Sikh religious flag or the nishan sahib.
This even as a spokesperson of Afghanistan’s Political Office denied that nishan sahib was removed.
A Hindu nanakpanthi (follower of Sikh’s first master Guru Nanak Dev), currently residing in Moscow, who didn't want his identity to be revealed, told TOI that the local caretaker of Gurdwara Rahman Chamkani apprised that a group of over two dozen people claiming to be Afghan Taliban came to Gurdwara and asked him to reinstall the nishan sahib.
He informed that they also organised langar for about one month.
Intelligence sources here informed that it was Pakistani Taliban also called Teherek-e-Taliban Pakistan who had earlier warned the caretaker of the gurdwara to remove the nishan sahib and when it was not removed they threatened him with dire consequences, forcing him to take it down.
Suhail Shaheen, spokesman of the Political Office, Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan denied that the incident of removal of nishan sahib had ever happened. “I investigated the claim of removal of the religious flag from Gurdwara, it was not true”, he said.
The caretaker of the Gurdwara also sent the pictures and video of reinstalled nishan sahib at Gurdwara Thala Sahib.
