Greater Noida: Four men allegedly befriended a chartered accountant on a gay dating app, called him to Sirsa roundabout and robbed him of his car, iPhone 11, cash and documents at gunpoint. All the accused were arrested late on Thursday night.
Police said the men had similarly targeted two self-styled godmen.
The four accused have been identified as Ashish, Sachin, Gaurav and Sagar. According to cops, on July 31, Ashish befriended the complainant — a 26-year-old man who lives in Dadri’s Mu II sector — on Blued, a gay dating app.
The two chatted for about three hours.
“Ashish often used Sachin’s phone to chat with his targets. He asked the victim to come to Sirsa roundabout to meet him. However, when the CA reached the spot, the accused attacked him and looted him at gunpoint,” Kasna station officer Sudhir Kumar said.
The CA lodged a complaint at Kasna police station alleging the men asked him to step out of his white Alto and stole his phone and wallet that contained Rs 6,000, debit and credit cards, PAN card and Aadhaar card.
Upon investigation, police found that accused would pretend to be gay and trap Blued app users.
“After the loot in Greater Noida, they went to Mathura and looted a ‘godman’ in a similar manner,” Kumar said, adding another self-styled godman in Rajasthan’s Mehndipur Balaji was also robbed.
While Ashish and Sachin were arrested after a shootout near the service road leading to Dadha village, Gaurav and Sagar were caught during combing of the area.
The CA’s car, iPhone and other belongings, as well as three other phones, were recovered from them.
While Ashish has five more cases, including attempt to murder, loot and others under Arms Act, against him, Sachin has a case of Arms Act lodged against him and Gaurav faces a theft case.
