Alumni advisory forum formed on Foundation Day
MANGALURU: National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal celebrated its 62nd Foundation Day on Friday. The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the flag by deputy director Prof Ananthanarayana V S.
NITK Foundation Day marks the celebration of the birthday of NITK (then KREC) founder late U Srinivasa Mallya. The day coincided with the launch of the Alumni Advisory Forum.
Unfolding the new education policy NEP-2020, and directive for its implementation by the ministry of education, it has been proposed to transform industry collaboration to the next level through the establishment of innovation labs, centres of excellence and funding R&D activities.
NITK/KREC 1981 batch alumni have contributed Rs 4.7 lakh towards the NITK/KREC endowment fund. The contribution is towards an award and cash scholarship of Rs 10,000 each for two meritorious and deserving children of non-teaching or contract employees, who secured the highest score in their SSLC examination. This cash scholarship was given to Anisha and Manjunatha.
Meanwhile, Trishul Jal Sanchayan, a groundwater recharge project supported by the students of the 1994 batch, was also inaugurated at Trishul (8th block ) boys hostel. The project is designed to collect rainwater from the rooftop of Trishul boys hostel, Canara bank building and State Bank building, and divert it to the proposed location of the pond and well. Over 300 saplings have been planted around the well, to create a green space.
The total cost of the project is around Rs 20 lakh.

To achieve these new goals, alumni support is essential. The proposal for the formation of the forum from the director Prof K Umamaheshwar Rao had an encouraging response from NITK’S Alumni Association.
