Detain three marshals for entering Yeshwanthpur Rly Stn premises as they were trying to penalise people without masks
Three marshals of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP ) got the shock of their lives at the Yeshwantpur Railway Station -- for trying to do their job well. The trio was detained for an hour by the railway police at the station for the unforgivable crime of trying to enforce the mask norm. The railway police asked them to pay a penalty for entering into the railway property.
“Our marshals found two railway passengers coming out of Yeshwantpur Railway Station without wearing face masks. They tried to penalise them but the two ran into the railway station and brought one railway employee (who looked like a ticket collector) with them,’’ said Sridhara KS, supervisor for BBMP marshals, RR Nagar Zone.
Goutam Kumar – were detained for more than an hour at the railway station.
He said the railway employee snatched the radio and mobile phone from the marshals. “The railway employee directed the railway police to register a case against the three marshals for trespassing into the railway station but our marshals refused to pay the penalty stating that they have been doing the duty as per the BBMP Chief Commissioner’s directive,’’ he said.
He said that railway employees refused to provide the Divisional Railway Manager’s phone number. “The railway employees, including the police, were rude with our marshals and threatened to register a criminal case against them if they dared to enter the railway property,” he said.
South Western Railway Divisional Manager Ashok Verma told Bangalore Mirror that he was not aware of the incident. “The BBMP marshals can approach us. I have not been informed about the detention so far,’’ said Verma.
BBMP Chief Marshal Col Rajbeer Singh said the zonal supervisor had informed him about the incident. “I have already informed the BBMP Special Commissioner (Health) about the incident,’’ Singh said.
BBMP Special Commissioner (Health) Randeep D said that he would write a letter to the railway authorities stating that BBMP marshals are authorised to penalise the people for not wearing face masks.
