Launch of Mobile RTPCR van soon: Dr Rajo

Imphal, August 06 2021: Keeping in view of high prevalence of Covid-19 cases in the state, Chief Minister N Biren would soon launch a mobile RTPCR testing van with a capacity of testing 3000 samples in a day with results within three hours, said health services director Dr K Rajo.

Addressing the weekly press conference on Covid-19 at the conference hall of IMA Manipur State branch, Lamphelpat on Friday, Dr Rajo informed that the mobile testing vehicle will be launched in partnership with a private firm and it will offer RTPCR test at Rs 450 only.

Test results will be provided within three hours, he said and added that the initiative has been taken up with objective of providing affordable Covid testing facilities to the public.

He said that the main reason behind the relentless detection of new cases and fatalities is the prevalence of Delta variant, which is the dominant variant in the state.

Almost all samples collected for genome sequencing returned positive for Delta variants.

Besides, negligence on the part of the public in following Covid relevant SOP and appropriate behaviours as well as slow progress in vaccination are contributing factors behind the high rate of transmission and fatalities, he added.

Dr Rajo said that during the second wave of the pandemic, July recorded highest count of fatalities and Imphal West topped the 16 districts.

So far, Pherzawl district has not recorded a single fatality due to Covid-19 and it is also the least affected district in the state.

The government is making all out efforts to contain the second wave of the pandemic by prioritising testing and vaccination.

Special teams are monitoring positive patients in home isolation and the state control room for Covid-19 is also extending service to the public 24x7, he informed.

The director then appealed to the public to cooperate with the government in containing the pandemic and not to post anything on social media that might mislead the public.

He also appealed to the public to follow Covid appropriate behaviour and get their vaccine shots as soon as possible.

UNESCO team, central government team and officials of state health department also attended the press conference.
