Karunanidhi death anniversary: DMK will follow the path laid down by late leader for social justice, Stalin says

M K Stalin pays tributes to M Karunanidhi at the memorial on Marina Beach on Saturday.
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK president M K Stalin on Saturday said the party will follow the path laid down by late CM and party chief M Karunanidhi to establish a society that embraces social justice. Stalin was paying tributes to Karunanidhi on his third death anniversary.
“We will live up to the words and thoughts of our leader. We will follow the path shown by him and establish a society that embraces social justice,” Stalin in a statement.
To mark the occasion, the CM launched a tree plantation campaign on the premises of Hindu religious and charitable endowments office in Nungambakkam. As part of the campaign, one lakh saplings would be planted on land belonging to the HR&CE. Native varieties such as mango, punnai, vilvam, shenbagam and marutham trees would be planted.
After launching the tree plantation programme, Stalin along with DMK women wing secretary and MP Kanimozhi and DMK youth wing secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin and general secretary S Duraimurugan paid a visit to the memorial of the late CM. Senior leaders T R Baalu, K N Nehru, E V Velu, A Raja, R S Bharathi, Dhayanidhi Maran and several other party leaders accompanied them and paid their tributes.
Before visiting the memorial, they paid tributes to the portrait put up in front of the former CM’s residence at Gopalapuram.
Hundreds of party members visited Kalaignar's memorial and paid tributes.
Later, the CM distributed welfare measures and aids to beneficiaries of the ‘CM in Your Constituency’ scheme.
Leaders of various political parties also paid their tribute to the five-time CM. Congress party hailed Kalaignar and tweeted in its official handle that “...in addition to being a leader of the masses, he also contributed as a great poet and writer and inspired millions to work for society,”.
VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan tweeted with the hashtag RembereringKalaignar, “...He rose against thousands of years of conservation. A powerful leader who protected social justice to pave the way for equality. Bravest champion who reclaimed democracy, uprooting his Santan enmity.”
