    Funnel cake

My wife said she doesn't like funnel cake (they serve them at fairs and carnivals, like what's going on in my town now).

Told her they should be called saddle cakes instead.

After further thought and personal observations, they should be called fattle cakes.

Funnel cake to me falls into the same category as something like French fries or Mac and cheese balls: I can recognize it tastes good, but the food itself gives me this visceral sense of repellant knowing how greasy and sloppy it’ll make my stomach feel.

Can't say I've ever had funnel cake but definitely ate quite a few elephant ears at the local fair when I was a kid.

This. I happen to love the taste of funnel cakes, but I last had them was almost exactly 8 years ago to this very day. The reason being that the 15 hours of bloat and pain after was hardly worth the few minutes of enjoyment I had from eating them.

I was actually thinking about this today: I think both you and I might share a similar bile/enzyme response to foods that just makes fats harder to absorb... thus we tend to not do well on high fats diets especially with highly refined/damaged oils.

I can consume plenty of whole-food fats like avocado, nuts, seeds, tofu, etc without an issue (though I've never had them is MASSIVE amounts), and I think the whole-food still containing fiber and other undamaged chemical bonds mitigates some of the acid/bile dysregulation.

Perhaps after years of restricting processed fats, our gallbladder, liver, etc slowed down their function consistently enough that it became permanently altered and requires more time to digest fats compares to folks without that history. Slow digesting fats less so obviously, but with the processing of those oils makes them require immediate breakdown which seems to be a problem for both of us.
