Panchkula, August 4
Members of the Sector 23 Residents Welfare Association here today protested the dumping of waste at the Sector 23 site in violation of the government orders.
The residents claimed that waste was still being disposed of at the Sector 23 dumping ground.
Though the state government had ordered the Panchkula Municipal Corporation to strictly avoid dumping of garbage at the Sector 23 ground, the instructions are being neglected at the local level, alleged the protesting residents.
On June 2, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had given strict instructions to the local authorities to stop garbage disposal at the Sector 23 dumping ground, following which the Panchkula MC began dumping garbage at Jhuriwala.
The state has fixed December 31 as the deadline to completely shift the Sector 23 dumping ground.
The residents said they had also complained to Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal, but to no avail.
If no action is taken, we will protest each day for one hour at the Sector 23 dumping ground to highlight our grievances, said the residents.
Meanwhile, Sector 25 residents continue to put up their resistance against the Jhuriwala dumping ground, claiming that it would have long-term consequences on the human habitation, environment and flora and fauna. They recently had also approached the NGT constituted committee to look into the matter.
