The pandemic has altered the way we work leading to a steep rise in the number of people working from home, which has led organisations to adopt more flexible working policies. This enables employees to bring their best version to work while they also have time for self-care. As a world leader in premium spirits with a mission to inspire human connections, Beam Suntory’s company culture and people practices reflect the same values.

‘Gemba Culture’ which means being together is a key part of the work culture at Beam Suntory. This empowers and encourages leaders as well as the employees to work together in partnership to determine how they can contribute to the business and its future. Keeping this in mind, Beam Suntory has released a list of Guiding Principles that addresses the ‘Future of Work’ and enables its employees to “Unleash their Spirit’. Beam Suntory is committed to prioritizing and empowering its people to strike the right balance between being in-person and remote work that is essential for their wellbeing, productivity, and satisfaction.

Following are the collaborative benefits for the employees as well as the organisation that will be followed in coherence with local government guidelines:

  1. Balance of In-Person and remote work: For office-based employees, a 60/40 work arrangement will be leveraged where 60% of the time is earmarked for Gemba or in-office purposeful collaboration and 40% of remote time can be utilised in a way that works best for the employees personal needs, and spread out evenly every week.
  2. Flex hours and Relaxed Weekends: While the office is open 5 days a week, employees can choose to go to the office or work remotely on Fridays with a 2 p.m. stop and “meeting free” when possible. This time should be used for deep thinking and catching up from the week.
  3. Workplace Location: All employees are assigned to an office location that serves as a team member’s base and they are expected to work from that location following the 60/40 principle. Select highly technical roles maybe 100% remote based on manager approval and employees can work from an alternate work location with manager approval.

Beam Suntory truly understands the value of work-life balance, creating space for deep thinking and focused time, and driving inclusivity and collaboration with employees in different locations that drive it’s Future of Work’.
