The UT has asked Haryana to act on the matter on priority
CHANDIGARH: The UT administration has written a letter to Haryana government to stop the flow of untreated water of Saketri and Mahadevpur villages in the state into the Nepli choe of Chandigarh. In the letter to additional chief secretary (forests), and additional chief secretary (environment), UT chief conservator of forests Debendra Dalai has said the UT wanted to draw their attention towards issues related to ecosensitive zone (ESZ) around Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary in the area falling in the territory of Haryana, and the untreated water of Saketri and Mahadevpur villages, draining into the Nepli choe of UT. They were requested to resolve the issues on priority. The UT has also said the matter was raised by Punjab governor-cum-UT administrator V P Singh Badnore during the third meeting of the Chandigarh Wetlands Authority held on June 17. Recently, the administration had also raised the issue of untreated water from Kansal (Punjab) into forest areas of Chandigarh. Despite repeated reminders, both Punjab and Haryana have failed to stop sewage flowing from their territories into forest areas of the city. The issue pertains to sewage flowing from Nayagaon and Kansal villages of Punjab and Saketri and Mahadevpur villages of Haryana. The sewage flowing into Sukhna forest reserve has been causing damage to the flora and fauna in the area.
