HYDERABAD: The Kaloji Narayana University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) has decided to promote physiotherapy students to next year without conducting the final examinations.

Thousands of students pursuing bachelor of physiotherapy (BPT) had approached the university seeking unconditional promotion citing delays in the academic session by almost nine months.

Students had sought a one-time promotion from KNRUHS through Twitter storms, protests, and representations to the Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. Subsequently, few students also moved to the Telangana High Court seeking relief.

Congratulations!

The decision was taken by the university recently during its executive council meeting following multiple representations by the students. “Physiotherapy students may be promoted to next year but they have to compulsorily appear for the final examination of that year before final examination of the next year (promoted year),” read a notification issued by the university recently.
The executive council observed that physiotherapy is an important branch of health sciences dealing with patients. “Physiotherapy graduates will be practicing as consultants and treating the patients, so it is not proper on the part of the university to expose the society to physiotherapists with inadequate knowledge and training, jeopardizing the patients,” observed the council.
