KANPUR: A gang, which used to prepares fake sureties and bail papers for the accused in jail, was busted by the
crime branch on Wednesday. Five members of the gang have been arrested from the Kalyanpur
police station area. The accused include one advocate, and five others.
Many fake bail papers, photographs and other certificates have been recovered from them. The police have identified the accused as Sheel Kumar Gupta (advocate), a resident of
Gwaltoli, Sachin Kumar Sonkar, a resident of Raipurwa and Santosh Singh, a resident of Kalyanpur. “Sachin and Santosh used to work as ‘munshi’,” said the police.
Along with them, one Vrindavan and Surendra, both natives of Auraiya have also been arrested. “Vrindavan and Surendra used to facilitate furnishing of fake sureties at the behest of the advocate,” said the police. The advocate and his accomplices used to prepare fake sureties for those accused who were in jail.
“This situation mostly comes in the case of hardcore criminals or the prisoners. There is a rule to have a permanent surety for bail. In case of such prisoners, the gang used to prepare fake sureties and fake bail papers,” said DCP Crime Salman Taj Patil.
The police recovered 21 Aadhar cards, three vehicle registration certificates, four envelopes issued by Hon’ble Court for bail proof, three Voter IDs, two residence proof certificates, 165 photographs, six seals, 12 letter pads and two stamps.
Fake sureties were being prepared by the accused using these items, informed official, who added, the police had been receiving inputs from the court about the fake sureties and bail papers. This input was more in the case of prisoners of other districts and states. In the case of Unnao and Auraiya districts, up to 90 percent fake sureties were being used.
“The arrested have been booked under relevant section of
IPC. Further investigations are underway in this regard,” said official further.To recall, earlier, the police has sent 61 people living in Bithoor to jail, who got fake bail by Kotwali police.
