Raising issues such as price rise, unemployment, farm laws and the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav rolled out a “cycle yatra” in Lucknow on Thursday. The rally was organised to mark the birth anniversary of socialist leader Janeshwar Mishra, and was attended by hundreds of party supporters.
Speaking to reporters, Akhilesh claimed that the people of UP are furious at the BJP government over its failures in governance and massive mismanagement during the pandemic. He said while his party was earlier expecting 350 seats in the upcoming UP elections, the anger might now result in over 400 seats now for the SP.

“A lot of people died because the government could not provide life-saving oxygen. The government has failed in every aspect. The way people are angry with the government, it is possible that the voters will help us get 400 seats… we used to expect just 350 seats… BJP will not find enough candidates for them,” he said.

“Look at the party, which used to make claims about maintaining distance with criminals, how close they are to them. The BJP does not make manifesto, but money-festo… When the election is close, they are showering love on backwards, Dalits and Muslims. For the last four years, they have oppressed these communities.”
