Often derided on social media for not hitting the streets against the BJP for its policies, the Congress on Thursday managed a respectable crowd of the party faithful from the Youth Congress to gherao Parliament in its attempt to ratchet the pressure on the Narendra Modi government to come clean on the Pegasus spyware imbroglio.
Led by former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, the visuals are proof that something has turned or switched on with the talk of Prashant Kishor turning up for the party as a functionary.
At Thursday’s gherao, Rahul Gandhi said the Pegasus spyware made by Israeli cyber arms firm NSO Group, was a tool to silence people. Gandhi held PM Modi to account for rising unemployment, saying till the time Modi continues to occupy the post of Prime Minister, the youth of the country cannot get employment.
The Congress MP also said the Prime Minister has put Pegasus in the phone of every youth and not just him. Mobile phones are people’s voices and if they speak the truth, Pegasus will spy over them and the government will know it.
Referring to PM Modi, the former Congress chief tweeted that: He will lose every bet when we come out together!
Rahul Gandhi said Pegasus is a way to silence the voices of people. The Modi government is constantly being attacked by the opposition over the Pegasus phone hacking scandal and discussion is being demanded in Parliament. The issue has snowballed into a political row in Parliament and outside Parliament during Monsoon Session. Several parties have demanded a thorough investigation and resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah, while the government maintains that there has been no illegality while denying all such allegations.

Addressing the Youth Congress workers, Rahul Gandhi said that the day the youth of this country starts speaking the truth, the Modi government will fall.
He also mentioned the gang-rape and killing of the 9-year-old Dalit girl in Delhi Cantonment area, saying the minor was raped and killed in Delhi but no report about the incident was seen in media. He claimed the government is making every effort to not show the truth to its own people. They are trying to suppress the truth and the voice of the youth, Rahul said.
Gandhi also brought up the issue of farmers protesting against Centre’s three newly enacted farm laws. He said farmers’ voices and demands are not being heard by the government. He said that even on Lok Sabha TV, the truth of what is happening in Lok Sabha is not shown, only speeches of BJP MPs are broadcast.
