Srinagar, Aug 5 (UNI) A Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) meeting is underway on Thursday in the summer capital, Srinagar, to discuss the future plan of action on the second anniversary of the abrogation of special status of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
PAGD -- including National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), CPI (M), Awani National Conference (ANC) and Peoples Movement -- met at the residence of its chairman Dr Farooq Abdullah on Gupkar road at around 1100 hrs on Thursday.
Sources said the alliance is deliberating on various issues confronted by people, besides ironing out future plan of action.
The Centre on August 5, 2019 abrogated Article 370 and Article 35 A, besides dividing the erstwhile state into two Union Territories (UTs) – J&K and Ladakh. Hundreds of politicians, including three former chief ministers – Omar Abdullah, Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti – activities and separatist leaders were placed under preventive detention and later booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) for several months.
The alliance in a statement on Wednesday urged people to remain united and continue their struggle for restoration of special status of the erstwhile state of J&K peacefully and legally, alleging that people are being ripped off their jobs and rights over natural resources since the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35 A on August 5, 2019.
PAGD spokesperson Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said the All Party Meeting (APM) of J&K leaders with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi didn’t yield any result as no Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) required bridging the gap between Delhi and J&K were taken by the centre. “August 5 marks the completion of two years since the unprecedented assault on the Constitution of India was done to nullify Article 370 of the constitution - thereby damaging the very bond of our relationship with union of India. By demolishing the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir by the Government it has crossed all the limits of constitutionality,” Mr Tarigami had said on the eve of the completion of two years of the abrogation of the special status of J&K.
