CHANDIGARH: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday issued orders to appoint Anindita Mitra, a 2007 batch IAS officer, as the Chandigarh municipal corporation commissioner.
“The appointments committee of the cabinet approved the proposal of the ministry of home affairs for appointment of Anindita Mitra to the post of MC commissioner, UT, on inter-cadre deputation from Punjab cadre to AGMUT cadre (Chandigarh segment),” a copy of the order said. The Punjab government will now relieve the officer from the state.
Mitra, who will have a three-year tenure, will be first regular IAS officer from Punjab, to serve in Chandigarh as the MC commissioner. Earlier, IAS officers Prerna Puri and Bhawna Garg had been given additional charge of municipal commissioner for a few months.
The MHA had a few days back cleared the names of 2000 batch senior Haryana cadre IAS officer Nitin Kumar Yadav and Mitra for the posts of Chandigarh home secretary and MC commissioner. Sources said the Centre was likely to issues the appointment orders for Yadav soon. The extended tenure of current municipal commissioner K K Yadav and home secretary Arun Kumar Gupta is ending this month.
