A terrific knock from KL Rahul as he makes his return to Test cricket after a gap of 2 years. A solid effort from him right at the top of the order. He was given the responsibility to open the innings and he has passed it with flying colors. Gets to his 12th Test fifty off 128 balls. But the two quick wickets of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli have rattled India. Rahul will now have to play with a lot more responsibility. IND 106/3 after 41.1 overs, trail by 77 runs

Close, that was very close! Cheteshwar Pujara survives with the help of a review. Ollie Robinson darts the ball in and Pujara offers no shot and leaves it. Big misjudgment from Pujara. Openers Rohit Sharma (36) and KL Rahul (48*) laid a solid platform as India got to 97/1 at lunch on Day 2 of the Nottingham Test. After frustrating the England pacers for almost the entire session, Rohit fell in the last over before the break as he gave the hosts the much-needed breakthrough. Earlier, resuming on the overnight score of 21/0, both Rohit and Rahul started pretty cautiously. The England seamers tested both the openers with some high quality swing and seam bowling but they were up for the challenge. The mantra of leaving deliveries outside the off stump was religiously followed by the duo as they kept frustrating the England pacers. Both Rohit and Rahul also did not miss out on the loose balls and kept the scoreboard ticking throughout the entire first session. England bowlers bowled superbly but were not able to get the much-needed breakthrough. But at the stroke of lunch, Rohit played a false shot, throwing his wicket away once again in the 30s. The quartet of James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Ollie Robinson and Sam Curran toiled hard throughout the session and finally managed a wicket towards the end of it. India still trailed by 86 runs at the break.
