The doctors and the health workers took intense care of the deceased and critically ill patients when not even their kith and kin were ready. They have witnessed lonely deaths and held up mobiles for families and relatives to bid their heartbreaking final goodbyes. They had pages and pages of backup schedules and most of them neglected their own families and personal lives. Particularly, camaraderie in the ICU was never stronger like this before and it was purely a team effort to battle against one common enemy. During this battling journey, sometimes they have run out of personal protective equipment and we have witnessed many of them die too.

To protect the ones they love, they counted the risk factors of their children, their elderly parents, spouses, they formulated their own decisions whether to come back home or stay away in hotels.

Then, a glimpse of hope came via effective vaccines that became extensively available. Finally, the whole world briefly observed light at the deep end of the tunnel. The number of cases with COVID-19 in ICUs across the nation fell. It looked like the sacrifices and dedication as health care workers were paid off. Herd immunity was becoming a reality and the entire world was returning to some sense of normalcy. 

But the short-lived hope was fleeting, and the entire world is amid another surge of war. But this time the enemy is fueled by a highly transmissible variant specifically on those who are unvaccinated. 

Now the history repeats itself, On the contrary, the health workers are feeling angry as the ICUs are filled with unvaccinated. 

A step further, the unvaccinated refuse to wear “muzzles” during shopping's, and a careless approach towards the highly dangerous COVID virus. The anti-vaxxers senseless actions have let this SECOND pandemic continue to rage.

In the meanwhile, people with low immunity, are frantically waiting for herd immunity. And the worst cases are for the transplant patients who contracted COVID-19 deadly virus after making themselves isolated for over one year and getting completely vaccinated as soon as they are able to. With angry drops of tears, the patients complain that anti-vaxxers endanger the entire community. 

At the end of the entire battle, the nation feels betrayed by its fellow citizens. But the bitter truth is that the cases are doubling down now when compared to the first battle. 

Perhaps it's time to realize that the unity is no more we are never on the same side and we don't have a common enemy. Perhaps the war has been among us all this time. We have won many battles but an unvaccinated world is choosing to let COVID win the battle.
