The 23-year-old, Indian Boxer from Assam Lovlina clinched Bronze Medal for India in the 69 kg weight category.
However, her dream of winning the Gold for India remained unfulfilled as she goes down to reigning world champion Surmeneli Busenaz of Turkey 0-5 in the semi-finals at the Ryogoku Kokugikan arena.
“I dedicate this medal to the nation,” said Lovlina Borgohain post her semi-final bout.
“I wanted to win a gold medal, but somehow that did not happen. But I am happy to have won a bronze medal for the country,” Borgohain added.
With this, Lovlina became the third boxer from India to win a medal at the Olympics after Vijender Singh at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Mary Kom at the 2012 London Olympics.
Earlier, weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (Silver) and ace badminton player PV Sindhu (Bronze) scored medals for India at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Borgohain had earlier outclassed Germany’s Nadine Apetz by a 3:2 split decision and stormed into the quarterfinals where she defeated Chinese Taipei’s Nien- Chin Chen and assured a medal for India.
