(File Photo) Delhi University (DU) has seen a huge rush for undergraduate admissions with almost 89,000 applicants registering for around 70,000 seats by 5 pm Wednesday –less than 48 hours after the admission portal went live. At the first Open Day for UG courses held Wednesday, university officials said they expected to cross the one-lakh mark by the end of the day.
As per data made available on the admission website of the university, as of 5 pm Wednesday, 88,994 applicants had registered for various UG courses on offer.
The last day of registration for UG courses is August 31.
Speaking at the occasion, Sanjeev Singh from DU’s computer centre said, “At this rate, all registrations will be over within a week. There is time till August 31, so there is no need to rush. Please make sure you do not submit multiple applications, and go through your application several times before submitting it. Once submitted, no changes can be made.”
The Open Day session was live-streamed on Facebook.
Admission committee chairperson Rajeev Gupta said the university had ensured that only “minimum documents need to be submitted during the registration process”.
“However, some important documents will have to be scanned and uploaded. These are: your photograph, scanned copy of your signature and academic credentials of the past years (mark sheet and certificate), as well as caste certificate if applicable. If you start the registration process with these ready, you will face minimum hassle,” he said.
“In the past years, we have seen applicants forget to select some particular college or course, so this year we have made the provision whereby all colleges and courses are auto-selected. So there is no need to de-select them. This will ensure you don’t miss out on any course or college,” said Gupta.
Registrar Vikas Gupta warned students against potential financial fraud at cyber cafes. “We have earlier heard of cases where the cyber cafe owners take cash from applicants and use their own card for fee payment, which is refunded to them later. Please keep this in mind, and make sure your registration is completed before you pay them.”
Gupta said a provision for students with no digital infrastructure could be made at DU’s computer centre if the issue was intimated to the university.
Dean Admissions Pinki Sharma and Director South Campus Suman Kundu also spoke at the event. DU’s Open Days for UG courses will continue till August 7.
The university has already held Open Days for postgraduate (PG) courses, for which DU has seen 81,610 registrations for around 20,000 seats till 5 pm Wednesday. For MPhil/Ph.D. courses, there have been 11,665 registrations.
Registration for PG and MPhil/Ph.D. courses began on July 26 and will be open till August 21.
